WHO WE HELP
The service is free to women over 16 years old who are experiencing or have experienced domestic and family violence, who need advice about court, referrals and legal resources in the Nepean, Windsor and Blue Mountains areas.
We provide tailored services specific to the needs, experiences, strengths and vulnerabilities of marginalised groups including Aboriginal women, women from multicultural communities, LGBTQI+ women, women living with disability, young women (under 25 year of age), older women (over 65 years of age) and women who have been incorrectly identified as the person using violence in court proceedings.
We recognise the gendered nature of domestic and family violence and its disproportionate impact upon women. However, it is acknowledged that there are diverse gender identities and experiences. Nepean Blue Mountains Women's Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service is a safe space for non-binary people and any person who does not identify as a man.
HOW WE HELP
We provide a specialist, trauma-informed model of service delivery for women affected by domestic and family violence.
We provide women experiencing domestic and family violence with information, advocacy, referrals and support throughout the court process, particularly in regard to Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders (ADVOs)
We assist with threat assessments, safety planning and referrals to other supports for women and their children. We can also provide you with information about what to do if the abuse continues.
We have an Aboriginal Specialist Worker available to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women with culturally sensitive support.
Our specialist workers work collaboratively with government and non-government partners through Safety Action Meetings to support women at serious threat.
We have a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Specialist Worker to assist women from different cultural backgrounds.
